Why Are We Here?

    《我们为何而来?》

    Project Type: AI-generated Images

    Completion Year: 2025

For the Wuyuan River Nature Art Season, Song Lu presents Why Are We Here?, a series of AI-generated images centered around the backs of five bird species native to the Wuyuan River area: the Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Shikra, White-throated Kingfisher, Greater Coucal, and Eastern Cattle Egret. These avian silhouettes are rendered at a scale that transcends the everyday, appearing both lifelike and otherworldly. By portraying their backs rather than faces, the work subverts the anthropocentric gaze and invites viewers to engage with the world from a more open, non-human perspective—reimagining our relationship with nature through the lens of coexistence and shared mystery.
